TD65/TD65-2 Deck Tire Rims with Bushings

Affects: TD65 and TD65-2 mowers built prior to 1998

History

6205 Bearings and Wear Bushing Kit 521319

The original TD65 and TD65-2 deck tire rims were built with 6205 bearings installed, requiring a 1″ shaft for mounting. Later, Progressive changed the bearing for a replaceable wear bushing set, built to fit in the same rims as the 6205 bearings.

  • Bearings for this setup were sold under part #501319
  • Tire and Rim assemblies were sold under part #521318 (no longer available)
  • Tires were sold under part #521848 (no longer available) for Kenda brand tires, and #521827 (no longer available) for Duro brand tires

Thin wall wear bushings

Soon enough, another option for tires was made available. This rim included the same 1″ ID wear bushings, but a much thinner wall on the bushings. They were cheaper and more simple to replace than the previous versions, and allowed more options for replacement so customers could eliminate waste by only replacing what needed replaced. Older tires were still able to be used, but older wear bushing kits and older rims were not compatible with these changes.

  • Bushings for this setup were sold under part #521787
  • Rims with bushings installed were sold under part #521772 (no longer available)
  • These Tire and Rim assemblies were sold under part #521786 (no longer available) and #521788 (no longer available)

Tapered Roller Bearings

During the summer of 1997, Progressive started using tapered wheel bearings on the deck wheel assemblies. These were a much more robust setup, but required several changes to the mower. These changes also meant that the newer Tapered Roller Bearing setup was not compatible with the previous generation caster arms, meaning this setup required a new caster arm assembly along with tire and rim.

  • Caster arms were modified to now include a machined axle for the bearing sets
  • Tapered roller bearing sets were installed to mount the wheel assembly to the caster arms
  • Grease seals were installed at the back, and a grease cap at the front
  • Bearing sets were now held in place with a threaded castellated nut instead of just a cotter pin

Proven to be a robust solution, Progressive still uses the same tapered roller bearing setup today. Current generation deck tire technology is the same as it was back in the late 90’s, adding to simplicity for customers with mowers of different ages. Conversion from Bushings to Bearings

Knowing that customers cannot simply purchase a new tire and rim assembly and mount it to older caster arms, upgrade/conversion kits were created to assist customers making the change. Two kits exist, one for swivel caster assemblies, and one for square caster assemblies.

Each upgrade kit contains a tire and rim assembly, the respective caster arm, and a hardware kit. Hardware kits include bearings (races are pre-installed in the rim), grease seal, dust cap, cotter pin, castellated nut, and a shim washer.

  • For SWIVEL caster assemblies, order part #522319
  • For SQUARE caster assemblies, order Part #522320
